Kenya is the country’s highest mountain and rises abruptly from the Central Highlands to a summit of 5199m (17,058 ft). It is also the second highest mountain in Africa after Mt. Kilimanjaro. The mountain has three peaks, Batian, which is the highest, Nelion  and Lenana.  Batian and Nelion have been summited and they are for technical climbers.  Lenana.  The highest peak that can be ascended without rock climbing is point Lenana at 4985m (16,355 ft).  Batian  5199m, Nelion 5188m can only be ascended by technical climbers.

4 Days Mt Kenya Trekking Sirimon Route

Day 1:  Nairobi- Sirimon Gate- Old Moses Camp (3300m)

Our driver will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel at 7.00 a.m and we drive on the Thika Nairobi highway towards central Kenya up to Nanyuki, and then drive up to Sirimon Gate at Mt. Kenya National park where we shall have our lunch.  After lunch we ascend up to Old Moses Camp, at 3,300m which will take about 3 hours.  You are likely to view wildlife as we go through Mr. Kenya National Park forest, where you can take snapshots of the animals.  We get to the camp late in the afternoon for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Old Moses – Shipton’s Camp (4200m)

We take early breakfast and walk to the west, and follow the Mackinders Valley to reach Shipton’s Camp at 4,200m for dinner and overnight stay. The trek takes about  7-8 hrs from Old Moses Camp, and you will have a breathtaking view of the distinct vegetation zones.  Lunch is enroute.

Day 3: Shipton’s Camp -Point Lenana (4985m)- Old Moses

Early morning rise by 2.30 a.m. as we have hot tea and snacks to enable us leave by 3.00 a.m. to the summit which normally takes about 3 hours.  It is good to note that this area is rocky and frozen and one should therefore take extra care.  We continue walking until we get to Point Lenana at 4985m by about 6.30 a.m. to catch the awesome sunrise.  We then descend to Shipton’s Camp for breakfast after which we trek down to Old Moses Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Old Moses – Sirimon Gate -Nairobi

We enjoy early morning breakfast after which we continue with our descent through the bamboo and indigenous forest to reach Sirimon Gate where we link up with our transport back to Nairobi.
